Im putting a Motorola CDM 750 vhf in it. He doesn't want to drill a hole in the roof, nor does he want to use a magnetic mount. I've found a glass mount vhf antenna with a mini uhf male connection that I need. My question is. has anybody used these glass mounts for vhf radios. How good does it RX and TX. I don't think I can agree that glass mounted antennas offer a compromise in performance. The biggest problem is the glass followed by the location on the glass the antenna is mounted. Through glass antennas are designed to take advantage of the capacitance.

I got all the adapters and a trunk NMO mount to connect an antenna to my HT1000 on vhf (frequency is155. 160). Now i need an antenna, i'm not sure what to get. My local radio shop said they'd sell me an antenna and cut it to length for $66. Should i just go that route. A simple quarter wave antenna will run you less than $20 and come with a cutting chart that will get you close enough. Quarter wave antennas are quite broad banded, so you don't need to be exact to get good results. The allen wrench tool usually is included with the antenna.
